When the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, it didn't take long for Verizon to move into action. Within days the company implemented a mobile-giving program that makes it easy for customers to contribute to Japanese relief efforts. The events of 9/11 shook the world and in its aftermath created a new area for job growth in homeland security. Graduates go on to assume the responsibilities of a security professional/manager (corporate), as well as a career in the national security field (CIA, NSA, NIS, FBI).
The Verizon Foundation recently awarded the New Jersey City University Foundation two grants totaling $15,000. A grant for $10,000 is being used to fund the 2010 Verizon Communications and Information Security (COMMOINFOSEC) Scholarship program for national certification in cyber security. In addition, $5,000 through the Verizon Foundation's "Check Into Literacy" program will be used to support the NJCU America Reads Program, a program through which University students tutor elementary school students.
